Our Vision
Live free, unapologetically.
Breaking Free Transitional Services (Breaking Free)’s mission is to curb recidivism and advocate for criminal justice reform by giving practical resources to men and women within and transitioning out of the prison system.
Our holistic services support these men and women physically, spiritually, and mentally. Our featured program is GOPI House, a 10-bed transitional home in Nassau County, New York that houses men transitioning out of prison or facing homelessness successfully reintegrate into their community and families.
We also offer additional services to support their spiritual awakening and economic stability including spiritual and psychological counseling, case management, assistance with job placement and entrepreneurial endeavors. We also offer emergency, temporary housing for women and daycare for children.
Breaking Free was founded by Dr. Saroya Byrd-McKinney when as both a Pastor and Chaplain at the Nassau County Correctional Facility she saw a need for people who wanted to move forward in life from past mistakes but didn’t have the correct support system in place in which to do so. To create an even more substantial impact, Dr. Saroya Byrd McKinney trains individuals who also want to work in chaplaincy, or transitional housing learn how to make an impact in their communities.
The Breaker Nation Movement has expanded to include people from all walks of life across the globe committed to criminal justice reform, spiritual growth, and freedom on their terms. These leaders travel across the globe training and mentoring others who are seeking these attributes and skills. Breaker Nation is a group committed to living free, unapologetically.
